Let’s face it – some days, you just don’t know. Those of you from the south know exactly what I’m talking about with this rural euphemism. As women today, our lives are so hectic, so scheduled, so full as we juggle family, career, community and self, sometimes we just don’t realize where we are in the process.
Just how frantic our lives can be became clear to me a few weeks ago when I took my children to dinner. It was a crazy, busy day, no time to cook, so I packed up the kids and headed to a local restaurant. We were walking into the restaurant and my daughter, horrified, informed me that I had my slippers on. Now I was dressed, mind you, but yes, I walked out of the house with my slippers on. I didn’t miss a beat. I told her it was a new trend for spring. She didn’t buy it.
Our goal with Focus on Women is to help with the balancing of it all by providing a resource to inspire, educate, and empower. We want to make you laugh, make you think, and most of all, celebrate the wonders of being a woman. Focus on Women wants to be part of your life – part of your community – as we talk about issues important to us in balancing not only our checkbooks and our children, but our hearts, mind and spirit.
We are delighted to bring to you in our premiere issue some amazing women. You’ll read about Sugar Land Councilwoman Jacquie Baly Chaumette who came from meager beginnings immigrating to Texas as a child, and in her life’s journey, has become an entrepreneur, wife, mother, community activist and now, a member of Sugar Land City Council. You’ll learn about a new trend in the work force – working well past retirement age – and meet six remarkable women who are over 70 and still going strong. You’ll know two inspiring business owners and moms who have made a difference in the lives of so many children with Down syndrome through advocacy, research, and the unimaginable – a cure.
