For more than 60 years, M. D. Anderson Cancer Center has advanced its mission to eliminate cancer on its main campus in the Texas Medical Center, and is now bringing the same level of quality and experience to Sugar Land. The M. D. Anderson Clinical Care Center in Sugar Land, located on the campus of St. Luke’s Sugar Land Hospital, opens early September 2009.

“We’ve assembled a phenomenal team of people who are compassionate and passionate about what they do and about the community,” said Dr. Janet Tu, a medical oncologist who co-leads the team at the Sugar Land center along with medical oncologist Dr. Amit Sarma and radiation oncologist Dr. Isidora Arzu. “At M. D. Anderson, we look at each patient as a whole -- their spiritual side, physical strength and emotional well-being. We treat them as a whole person, in addition to their family. It’s a family process when someone is diagnosed with cancer.”

With M. D. Anderson’s network of leading cancer experts, Dr. Tu, Dr. Sarma, Dr. Arzu and their team are able to collaborate and customize a unique treatment plan for each individual. In addition, they are committed to working directly with patients’ personal physicians to determine the best plan of care.

“We’ve met with many physicians in the community to get to know them, and to let them know we are in Sugar Land if they need to refer their patients,” said Dr. Tu. “Our goal is to provide cancer care that is the M. D. Anderson standard, but bring it close to home while partnering with the physicians in the community.”

The M. D. Anderson Clinical Care Center in Sugar Land will offer medical oncology, chemotherapy, laboratory and pharmacy services, direct appointment scheduling and free patient parking when it opens early September 2009.
