The golf-style shopping tournament and girlfriends’ getaway weekend combines destination shopping, discounts and prizes with team costumes and parties. Past tournaments have regularly drawn competitive shoppers from around the state and as far away as California and North Carolina, and the homegrown event benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Fredericksburg. After-hours preview parties in the stores will open the event on Friday, September 10th starting at 5 p.m. The tournament opens on Saturday, September 11th with a 9 a.m. Tee-Off Breakfast followed by a fun-filled day of shopping. And, shoppers benefit from discounts of at least ten percent on all purchases in their choice 18 of the 25 participating shops! A closing “19th Hole Celebration” follows with awards, food and drinks. Shoppers also compete for prizes valuing up to $300 in numerous categories, including feats of strategic spending and team costumes. Longest Drive award is given to the shopper who lives farthest away; Closest to the Pin is for the one living closest to the Club. Heart Awards go to the individual and team who donate the most to the Boys & Girls Club. The tournament also sparks competition among the 25 participating shops, as they contend for Shoppers’ Choice awards, seeking to outdo each other in providing over-the-top shopping and preview party experiences. “While the Shopping Tournament is the signature ‘fundraiser for the Boys & Girls Club, we like to think of it as a wonderful event for our whole community,” said event co-chair Linda Fouquet. “It’s a win-win-win! Shoppers win by knowing that they truly are shopping for a cause, our stores and sponsors win by showcasing the incredible uniqueness of Fredericksburg, and the kids at the Club win because the community is investing in youth development.” The event is geared to the hundreds of thousands of destination shoppers that visit Fredericksburg each year. Some 1.3 to 1.5 million tourists visit annually. Last year, New York Times ranked the Texas Hill Country, Fredericksburg in particular, number one in a list of 31 “closer to home” destinations nationwide. Registration is $200 per team of four and can be done online at www.shoppingtournament.org.
